About David

Hello, my name is David M. Kunkle. I was born and raised on a family farm in western Pennsylvania, then I moved to Colorado in 1993 at the age of 12. After completing Middle School and High School in Granby Colorado, I obtained an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Business, Diesel Technology, and Street Rod at Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, Wyoming. I then joined East Grand Fire Department in 2005 and stayed on until 2022 before retiring.

Seeing a need for residential fire mitigation in my community, I started my own fire mitigation business in 2016. This began as a part-time, weekend job, but it then turned into a full-time job by 2018. I am a current S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaw Instructor for Colorado Fire Camp (CFC) in Salida Colorado, where we teach all levels of sawyers correct and safe methods of felling/bucking trees. I have been active with CFC since 2019.

I have worked in many different fields in my life—from working the oil rigs in North Dakota, working with excavation/dirt companies, and joining a road crew, to being a ranch hand, a farmer, a Snowcat operator, a snowmobile tourist industry manager, and a firefighter. I know the value of hard work and thoroughly enjoy the forestry work we perform.

I am passionate about the safety of our community and have volunteered plenty throughout my career. I have volunteered for 17 years at our local fire department and ten years as a live-in resident. I am also a current Grand County Search and Rescue (GCSAR) member for the Grand County Sheriff’s Office. I have been a member of GCSAR since 2022.

At Kunkle Services, we take pride in performing outstanding work and all our employees are Sawyer Certified, fully licensed, and insured—nothing but the best in our field.
